All-out facilities, protection to Chinese investors


LAHORE ?- ?Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that cooperation of Chinese authorities and investors for overcoming energy crisis in Pakistan will further strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries.This was stated by him during meetings with heads of various government and semi-government institutions in Beijing on Thursday. The Chief Minister said that there is a vast scope of generation of electricity from coal, solar energy and hydel power in Pakistan and it is hoped that China will cooperate with Pakistan in benefiting from these resources. He said that all-out facilities and protection will be extended to investors in energy sector in Punjab and land will also be provided to them on soft term basis for installation of solar system while all out cooperation will be provided for minimizing the cost of production of electricity.?He said that the purpose of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif;s visit to China is to seek its cooperation in increasing energy production. He said that China is a trusted friend of Pakistan and it is hoped that it will not leave Pakistan alone in the existing situation. He said that Pakistan does not want aid but friendly cooperation and technical guidance from China. He said that Pakistanis are a talented nation and he is sure that the country can make rapid progress like China under the dynamic and sagacious leadership of Nawaz Sharif. The Chief Minister invited the heads of Chinese companies producing electricity from solar power and coal as well as energy experts to visit Punjab and evolve power generation projects on emergent basis.?Meanwhile, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Punjab government and a public sector Chinese company, China Energy Engineering Company in Beijing. Provincial Energy Minister Sher Ali Khan signed the document on behalf of Punjab government. Under the agreement, the Chinese company will set up a medium range power generation project from coal.?Earlier, underground metro authorities gave a briefing on the transport system to Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif in Beijing. Chinese authorities and experts expressed their willingness to extend cooperation in operating the most modern transport system in the big cities of Punjab.?Dialogue with foreign firms on to overcome electricity crisis: Provincial Secretary for Energy Usman Akhtar Bajwa has said that effective dialogue is going on with foreign companies to overcome electricity crisis without any delay.?He said that secured and cooperative atmosphere will be provided to the foreign companies for the work. He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting with the Chinese delegation at the committee room of his office on Thursday.?Provincial Secretaries, Additional Secretaries of different departments along with the Director Edward Birmingham, Vice President Operations, Ashraf Bhatti, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Austin Hoang and J.J. Burg and other foreign members were present on the occasion.?He said that Energy Department and other allies departments should work day and night so that the required results can be achieved. He said we welcome the Galaxy Group of Electricity of China for generation of electricity from wind, coal and solar and we are trying to give practical shape to it. This was informed that the solar energy farm will be established at five thousands acre area of Cholistan, Bahawalpur district at a cost of $2.2 billion and from this solar farm, 1050 megawatts electricity will be generated and at the end of the 2014, small houses and small business centres can use the electricity generated by solar energy. It was informed that with the final approval of the project, a technical team from China Galaxy Company will visit Cholistan in the mid of the July 2013 and after that the work will be started without any delay.
